Während der Trophee de Montagne und der ECF Canicross EM hatten wir die Möglichkeit, Leire etwas näher kennenzulernen.

Sie ist derzeit eine der größten Talente im Canicross und Trailrunning-Bereich. Schon 2 mal gewann die sympathische, immer lächelnde 16jährige das grösste Canicross Rennen der Welt, die Trophee de Montagne, und lehrt dabei auch den Männer das fürchten…

Unsere Fragen hat sie in zwei Sprachen beantwortet. Um pfotenlaeufer.de endlich auch international platzieren zu können, haben wir uns dazu entschlossen, dies genau so wieder zu geben. Hier unser Interview mit Leire Fernández Abete, viel Spaß:

¿Desde cuándo tienes perros y cuántos son en total?
When did your first dog moved in and how many dogs do you have nowadays?

Desde siempre me han gustado los perros, pero como vivimos en un piso, es complicado tener perros.
Mi primer perro para competir lo tuve hace 4 años. Y ahora, tenemos la suerte de tener una finca en el monte y allí tengo mis perros. No los traemos a casa, ni a la ciudad, para que vivan un poco “salvajes”. Ahora tego 3 perros de competición.

I always loved dogs, but we live in a flat which is in a city, and it is complicated having dogs here.
My first dog to compete I have 3 years ago. And now, we are lucky enough to have a land in a mountain and there we have the dogs. We don´t bring them to the city, nor to the house,… like that they live a little “wild”.

¿Desde cuándo practicas canicross y cómo descubriste este deporte?
When did you start with canicrossing and how did that happen?

Hace 4 años, se celebró una carrera en mi pueblo y yo fui con mi perro. Me lo pasé tan bien, y descubrí lo que es la conexión con tu perro, que me encanta.
Y ahora con mis perros voy a las carreras de canicroos y estamos aprendiendo juntos en skijorring y bike……
Me encanta ver cómo mi perro lo da todo por mi…!!!!……. es increíble……!!!

3 years ago, it holds one canicross in my city. I love the mountain races and I love dogs, so I wanted to take part in this canicross. I enjoy so much, and I discovered the connection with my dog, and I love it. Now I go with my dogs to do canicross and we are learning together skijoring and bikejoring…..
I love to see how my dog give everything for mi…..! it is incredible….!!!

Cuéntanos algo sobre tu entrenamiento: ¿cómo te entrenas y con qué frecuencia lo haces?
Please give us some informations about your training methods! how many times per week do you train?

La verdad es que esto es algo que no me preocupa demasiado. De lunes a viernes, no solemos entrenar. A veces cuando puede i aita, intentamos quedar los miércoles a la tarde, para hacer un entrena con los perros sueltos por el monte………. Y luego, salimos todos los fines de semana con ellos. Pero sueltos.
Cuando ya vemos que han aprendido y que entienden su trabajo, no entrenamos atados. Les dejamos sueltos y vienen con nosotros al monte.
Hay días que les toca un par de horas, pero otros días igual vienen 6 o 7horas….
Nosotros creemos en nuestros perros ciegamente: ellos atletas, rápidos….., nosotros somos los “paquetes” que tienen que llevar. Nosotros creemos más en el vínculo y la unión (Bolt-Leire), más que en grandes dosis de entrenas.

The truth is that I don’t worry too much about training. Monday to friday we don’t train. Sometimes when my dad can, we go to run in the mountains with the dogs free. Also we go every weekend with them free. When we see that they have already learnt and that they understand what they have to do. We don’t train tied. We go to the mountain and they came free. We are overconfident in our dogs: they are atleths, the fastest…… we are the load that they have to carry. We trust very much in the bond and joining together (Bolt-Leire), and not in training too much.

¿Cuál son o fueron tus mayores éxitos deportivos con o sin perros?
Please tell us about your greatest sporting successes – with and without dog(s).

Tengo 16 años. Me gusta el monte. Me gustan los perros.
Mi mayor suerte es poder estar en el monte con mis perros…..
Mi mayor suerte es ver a mis perros cómo lo dan todo por mí……
Mi mayor suerte es ver a mis perros felices conmigo…..
Mi mayor éxito es haber conseguido este vínculo especial con Bolt…..!!!!
A nivel deportivo, me han salido bien carreras en el TDM y en la Campeonatos de España, Europa y Mundial….. pero la mayor parte del mérito es de Bolt.

My biggest luck is to be in the mountain with my dogs….
My biggest luck is to see that my dogs give me everything….. tire out for me…..
My biggest luck is to see that my dogs are happy with me.
My biggest success is to have this special bond with Bolt!!!
In the sports area, I enjoy a lot and I have got a good marks in the TDM, Spain Championship, Europeans Championship, World Championship…. But Bolt has all the merit.

En tu opinión, ¿qué hace especial a este deporte?
What is the „special thing“ in this kind of sport for you?

Para mí, está muy claro:
EL VINCULO-UNION CORREDOR – PERRO.
Cuando tú vas corriendo, y ves como tu perro, trabaja “a muerte” por ti……. Eso no tiene precio.

For me, it is very clear: THE BOLD-JOINING TOGETHER RUNNER-DOG
When you are running and you see that your dog works to death for you….. It hasn’t price.

¿Cómo estás planificando el campeonato para la próxima temporada?
Could you please tell us about your future plans and the sporting matches you want to visit the upcoming season?

Yo no soy de planificar. Vamos sobre la marcha……..

Nuestros perros compiten la temporada “de frío”….. y el resto del año vienen con nosotros al monte sueltos. Entonces, siempre están preparados.
Sí, que cambiamos su alimentación…… y algún que otro “pequeño secreto”…. Je, je, je, je

I don’t plan many things. We go on the march…
Our dogs compete when the temperatures descend… And the rest of the year come with us to the mountain free. So they are always trained.
Also, I change their feeding…

Tal vez nos puedas contar una historia breve o especial que hayas vivido con tu(s) perro(s). ……En el tdm se le raja la pata a Bolt.
Do you want to tell us about some special moments you had while you are running with the dogs?

Esto pasó en el Trphee des Montagnes – 2013:
Después de la tercera etapa y en un lago descansando con un buen baño, Bolt se hizo una herida, un corte de 7 cm en una almohadilla de su pata delantera….
Yo ya pensaba que se nos había terminado la competición. Así, que fuimos al veterinario (Michel), le curó, y nosotros le preparamos un vendaje y le pusimos un botín especial. Al día siguiente, se suspendió la etapa por muy mal tiempo.
Buaaajjj….. qué suerte…!!!
Mi padre me decía que tranquila, porque Bolt es mucho Bolt….!!!
Y, nada, le dejamos descansar una etapa……………. E hizo todas las demás como si nada.
A mí, me parecía algo increíble, porque salía con el vendaje y el botín, pero como “es tan bestia”, a los dos km se le salía de la pata y lo perdía. Yo me paraba a ver qué tal iba………….. Pero, Bolt, como si nada……
Yo iba corriendo y lloraba de la emoción de ver cómo trabajaba para mí…..!!!!
……la unión que hicimos después de pasar esas etapa hasta el final del TDM-2013, creo que nunca me voy a olvidar……. Ni tampoco Bolt.
Ahora es iron-Bolt.
Es mi ídolo…!!!

Trophee des montagnes 2013:
After the fifth stage we went to rest at one lake. Bolt cut his front right pad…..
I have already thought that the TDM had finished for us. So we went to the vet (Michel), he treated Bolt, and we made a bandage and we put a special ankle boot from him. The next day, the stage canceled because it was bad weather.
Buaaaa… What a good luck!!
My dad said to me to calm down because Bolt is Bolt….
So he rest 3 stages and we do the last stage together.
It was incredible for me, because he ran with the bandage and his ankle boot, but as he „is a beast“, in the second kilometer his boot fell and he lost it. I stopped during the race to verify if he is ok…. But Bolt hadn’t any problem…..
I was running and I weeped emotionally to see how my dog works for me.
The blond that we do after this TDM-2013, I think that I will never forget…. Bolt neither.
Now he is iron-Bolt.
He is my idol.
